When preparing a "Rights and Things" return, do I generate a new file and input the personal information?
Hi, thank you for using Intuit ProFile Community
The final return and any optional returns must be created in separate ProFile T1 file. So the final return can be completed and e-filed( in most cases), in one T1 file. A section 70(2), rights or things, would then need to be created in a new separate ProFile T1 file, since the Info tab setup is different then for a final return. Optional returns are called elective returns on the Info tab. Selecting yes for the optional return section will change the efile this return question to no since these returns must be paper filed.
To prevent overriding the final return and to distinguish between the returns, you can add a distinguisher on the file name such as 70(2).
Hope this helps
