Handling your concern would depend on the situation, Patricia.
If you want to access an inactive account from your Chart of accounts (COA), you'll need to enable the Include inactive option. Doing so ensures they'll be visible on the list.
Here's how:
- Go to the Gear icon and select Chart of accounts.
- Click the Mini-gear icon in the COA page.
- Tick Include inactive.

However, if you mean accessing a discontinued QuickBooks account, please know this would vary depending on the circumstances. If you only have a single QuickBooks subscription, you'll have read-only access to its data for a year. After that, you'll have to resubscribe to open the account again.
To open the account, kindly visit the QuickBooks login portal and sign in using your account's login credentials.
On the other hand, if you have multiple QuickBooks plans under a single user login and have at least one account active, you're eligible for unlimited read-only access to the closed account's data.
