how do i bulk change chart of accounts

There are only two options available with the Batch action feature, stacey. I'll elaborate on the details below.

The Batch action functionality allows you to Make inactive and Set default GST codes for your accounts. If this is what you meant by updating your Chart of accounts (COA), tick the checkboxes beside the account name or directly select the Name checkbox.

However, if you need to update the Description, Detail, Account type, or make other modifications, you'll have to do so manually, as bulk or batch updates for these types of changes aren't supported.

Meanwhile, if what you meant by updating your COA is you want to add subaccounts, you'll want to export your COA list, and manually update it instead. Then, reimport the revised COA. During this process, ensure you only map the subaccounts and do not alter or change the existing accounts. This approach will prevent duplicating your accounts.

In line with this, you'll encounter the error message Another account is already using this name. Please use a different name, which occurs considering those entries or accounts already exist in the program. In this case, you can ignore these errors and continue with the import. Since subaccounts are new entries, they will be the only entries added, avoiding duplicates. Remember to map only the subaccounts during the import process to ensure accuracy.

Once completed, a prompt will appear on your screen indicating the number of imported accounts.

Lastly, I'll share these resource guides to help you determine which default or special accounts can be deleted, edited, or merged and how to enable and use account numbers:

I'm still available for follow-up questions about modifying your COA. Just let me know in the comments below.
