Hi Community! Today we’re going to be diving into the world of payroll. Our product expert Connie is sharing her top 3 tips on navigating QBO Payroll so you can feel even more confident. Connie will be the guest for this month’s Ask Me Anything on December 18th. If you have any questions regarding payroll, be sure to join from 10am-12pm PT. Link that will take you to the discussion board on December 18th: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/webinars-and-events/ask-me-anything-with-product-expert-...

Let’s jump in and go over Connie’s top tips for payroll success and how it can benefit you during this time of year as we close out 2024.

1. Stay Alert for Email Updates: Occasionally, a direct deposit payment may switch to a paper check. Why? It's often because the employee's bank has informed Quickbooks of a necessary bank account update. If you encounter this, please check for emails from us detailing the issue. If the employee is uncertain of the required updates, they should promptly contact their bank's ACH department for clarity.
2. Proactively Manage Retirement Contributions: At the beginning of each year, take a moment to review the dates of birth for all your employees. For those turning 50 within the calendar year, switch their retirement contributions to Catch-Up retirement items. Even if they may not reach the maximum allowed, it will save you having to try and correct the item later in the year. This simple update ensures contributions remain on track throughout the year without needing last-minute adjustments.
3. Update State Unemployment Rates Promptly: Received a new State Unemployment rate? Be sure to update this in QuickBooks Online Payroll for the current quarter. Timely adjustments guarantee you’re neither overpaying due to a rate decrease nor incurring penalties from a rate increase. Staying ahead helps in maintaining smooth payroll operations throughout the year.
