Well folks, I'm doing it again! I'll be liveblogging various sessions from QuickBooks Connect again this year. If you haven't signed up, there is still time, the keynote opening session doesn't start for another hour. Register here - it's free and being held online this year.
Also for you early risers, there are a few pre-opening meetups to get in some networking before the big show, you can check out the full agenda of sessions here: https://quickbooksconnect.com/agenda/
I'm excited to see what the day brings, but first, I need my coffee. If you are watching along, let me know what sessions you are most excited about and share your thoughts in comments below. I'll be updating this post all day long and would love to talk with you!
7:24A PST
I've got my coffee and I'm ready to go! If this is your first time attending a virtual conference, no worries, when you log in you will be greeted with a quick and informative video on how to navigate the conference website. It's definitely worth poking around a bit to see everything that is up on offer.
The easiest way to navigate is by using the grey panel on the left of your screen, hovering over it will cause it to expand and then you can click on any of the sections.
Did you know that you can be entered to win a bit of QuickBooks swag simply by watching a product demo? Head on over to our product demo page and check out the tutorials that cover some of the hottest top... Most of them are less than 10 minutes - great way to fill time until the opening keynote, just saying.
7:48A PST
Ok, do some of the interludes of the music on the mainstage give anyone else vague X-Files vibes? I wanna see an episode focused on the accountant who has to handle the per diems and expenses on a Mulder and Scully investigation. #youcan'texpensethat

Here we go! First up, opening remarks by Alex Chriss, EVP and GM Intuit QuickBooks.
"The only constant is change. And that is ok" - words I think we all need to hear.
"You are pivoting, persevering and you are unstoppable" #yass
8:07A PST
More from Alex:
8:13A PST
"Finding and managing customers is not easy... all that changes right now."
(You can learn more about Mailchimp and QuickBooks here)
"Those moving fast and embracing change are the ones that will thrive. And I know you will meet the moment whatever it brings."
Great kick off to Day 1 of Connect, Alex. Next up are Kristen Bell and Jay Shetty. Be back soon!
8:38A PST
Welcome keynote with Jay Shetty and Kristen Bell.
"On my deathbed, what decision would I have wanted to have made?" A little dark, but an interesting life motto for sure.
"Sometimes to spread more joy, you have to sit with someone and let them cry" oof, Kristen dropping truth left and right.
8:46A PST
More from Kristen's keynote
Real talk about launching a company to help out parents. Talking about poop and the reality of being a parent to counteract the pristine image of having a child so that people know it's hard work and that it's ok to not be perfect all the time.
8:52A PST
More from Kristen's session:
"My takeaway has been people want to buy a feeling"
"People vote with their dollars... you need to take the time to identify what feeling am I giving a customer?"
8:57A PST
"Our goal was to make people feel something, and for it to feel like a piece of entertainment. Not like you are selling them something."
"People getting back to leisure and humanity is how I am going to look at my businesses going forward."
Loved the way that Kristen is looking at business, definitely different than your typical talk.
Going to hop into another session in a minute, so look out for more from me soon.
9:33A PST

QBO: The solution that grows with your business - I have updated to add the link to the recorded session, there was a lot of great info on how to organize and identify the best options for your business so make sure to check it out if you missed it!
Some questions and answers from Matthew Fulton's Session
Setting up general ledger accounts QBOA offers the most customization available via classes, projects, etc
Is QBTime available in all versions of QBO? It is a stand-alone time product, but it is available for QuickBooks Online Essentials and above.
How do you delete a bank account? You can't truly delete an account, but you can make it inactive in the Chart of Accounts. It doesn't fully disconnect, but it will make it inactive. You also have the option to merge accounts, but when dealing with banks you want to be careful.
Batch entry only available in Advanced? Yes. It's really useful and cool feature, but it is only available in Advanced.
Do the apps work with all versions of QB? Some premium apps are connected to Advanced, but there is an entire ecosystem of apps that work with all levels of QuickBooks.
That hour went by super fast! Next up: Reporting and insights in QuickBooks for business owners with Hector Garcia.

Reporting and insights in QuickBooks for business owners with Hector Garcia
Hector starting out hot right out of the gate! He's compiled a list of all reports available by QBO version and is sharing it with everyone. Check out his report list here
10:28A PST
More from Hector's session
Super clear and easy-to-follow breakdown of how and where you can customize built-in reports. #livingforthis
10:48A PST
Some Q&A from Hector's session
Does QBO backup your data? Yes with QBO Advanced it allows you to make periodic backups so that you can restore to previous versions.
Is there a way to update classes or tags in batch? Yes! There is a video on Hector's YouTube channel that shows the batch reclassify feature.
Do you need to reconcile your bank accounts to have a correct P&L report? How you categorize transactions (which come from bank downloads) will affect your report. Make sure you reconcile transactions, delete duplicates, etc to assure that you will have the most correct reports.
As before, I will add a link to the recorded session just as soon as it's available. Hector has a talent for presenting information in a way that makes it easily understood and breaks complex processes into manageable steps. And don't forget that he is offering an advanced version of this reporting session tomorrow with even more insights!
